We’re walking for mental health in May

Posted by: Danielle Moore at March 26, 2021

This year, our team will participate in Coastrek 2021 and walk 60 kilometres to proudly support the important work of Beyond Blue.

Like so many other Australian families, ours too have been impacted by mental illness. That’s why this is a cause that’s close to our hearts.

According to Beyond Blue, around three million Australians are living with anxiety and depression. Yet, Roy Morgan’s most recent research revealed the COVID-19 pandemic significantly increased these numbers, with more than 8.5 million of us (aged 15+) reporting that we experienced a mental health condition during our nation-wide lockdowns.

With mental health even more significant in a post-COVID world, our workplace wants to shine an even brighter light on critical community services like Beyond Blue and Lifeline.  By joining Coastrek 2021, our goal is to be part of the collective effort to reduce the stigma of mental health. We want more people to feel okay about seeking help, and become aware of the many incredible services available in our community.

Why mental health is important to us

Like so many of you, we know the devastating impact mental health issues can have on individuals and their families. It’s a subject that has become very dear to our hearts, especially in the last 12 months. But rather than just having a conversation about it, we’re determined to channel our energy into action – walking 60 kilometres for mental health and raising money to proudly support the life-changing work of Beyond Blue.

There is no question that this walk will challenge us mentally and physically – but we imagine it will be a walk in the park compared to a day in the life of someone living with mental illness.

Our mission is to raise $15,000 for this amazing cause and we’re $6000 away from achieving our goal. So if this is a cause that speaks to your heart too, we would very much appreciate your support (and words of encouragement!) Every donation helps and may even change a life.

A huge thank you to all of our supporters so far. You can follow our progress on the Coastrek website or follow us via our social media channels.
